“I Get You” is my return to portraiture, which I had previously reserved for my art journals, greeting cards and digital art. This acrylic painting has an ethereal quality that I love. It expresses my hope that empathy and compassion can replace divisiveness and inequality. The androgynous figure and animals form a union of understanding and respect for each other’s unique qualities.

I challenged myself to create a looser, non-objective, free-form abstract acrylic painting, one that is a departure from my usual bold, tighter mark-making style. I really enjoyed letting go and creating layers of paint and marks in a more free-flowing style. At times, I had to restrain myself from adding more marks, drawings and geometric forms. I’m so happy with the result that I might try painting another in a similar style.
A very uplifting and happy painting! It helps shift my energy quickly if I’m feeling down. This larger painting has a concentration of orangey yellows as well as other colors. The bright hues and shapes of Mexico were flowing through me when I painted it.
This acrylic painting is in keeping with my bold, tighter geometric imagery and heavy marks -- a fun and uplifting style. It’s a flirtation with life amidst the many colorful homes found in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In July, my husband and I took the short drive over the causeway to Long Beach Island, best known as “L.B.I.” to deliver four of my paintings that the gallery owner, Matt Burton, had invited me to exhibit. It’s a large and lovely space, displaying paintings, pottery and sculpture, and there’s a sculpture garden behind the building. My paintings on display include "Celestial Explosion," "This is Earth," "Ascension" and "New Dawn." All are shown on my home page and are featured in their own blog posts below. We spent over an hour talking with Matt about art, and I viewed the work of one of my favorite artists, Gwenn Seemel. Matt mentioned the area is known for celebrity sightings; names bandied about included Ray Romano and Taylor Swift. If you’ve never been to L.B.I., I suggest a visit. The beaches are beautiful, and, while there’s no boardwalk as at other famous NJ beaches, nature lovers (like me) can enjoy Barnegat Lighthouse State Park at the northern tip, and part of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge at the southern tip of this narrow 18-mile island. |
