Acrylic Paintings
I rarely sketch my canvases ahead of time -- I usually just dive in with paint. From a series of shapes or bold marks, I begin a stream-of-conscious or semi-planned artwork. I love the vibrancy and fluidity of Golden acrylic paints -- they’re well worth the expense. One of my favorite techniques is layering to give my work depth, sometimes like a painting within a painting.
I might playfully finger-paint or spray and splatter paint using a spray bottle. Of course, I use paintbrushes, and foam brushes are among my favorites. Specialty tools create specific kinds of lines, marks, impressions and effects. On some works, I add collage elements, hand-painted and decorative papers -- even scraps left over from my jewelry projects. Often, I incorporate metallic markers for detail work.
